Tiles, tiles, tiles

On Friday and yesterday we spent some time discussing the possible layout for the tiles. We’ve finally decided on the position of the drain: a couple of centimetres away from the rear wall. Going right up to wall might look more elegant but it does mean that the silicon seal has to work harder.

We also decided to lay the tiles broadways. This means they fit better on the floor: two next to each other and gives us a pattern for the walls. But why didn’t we have any tiles that are 60 x 60 was the question? And could we get any? Well, we got the ones we got because we didn’t know any better. And while we could order some in different sizes, they’d take another two weeks to get here.

Apparently, although cutting tiles looks easy on the videos, it’s something to avoid, if possible. And the walls are a bit of a problem if we keep the exact pattern of the floor. If, however, don’t worry about that near the rear wall, we need to cut six tiles fewer.

To help us take a decision, I’ve made a model.

Enormous thanks again to Binë for taking the time to think about this and the patience to explain it. But thanks also to Mr Sauer for his comments on positioning the drain.

If all goes well, we might have a tiled bathroom by the end of the week. Wish us luck!

PS. The original models will be available for sale by auction!
