The trappings of civilisation
One of the first things we had to do in the house was to decide where all the plugs and light fittings would go. And one of the few things we knew was that the dining table would be in the dining room. And, one, of the things we knew about the dining table was that is extensible in both directions. And in the Waldlehne that often meant moving it and trying to avoid taking your eye from the light fitting!
My task was, therefore, to measure the table and find the best position for it and any light. And then find a suitable light fitting. One of the things that could wait…
In the meantime we used the lamp from the living room. This was okay, though I did bash my head against its couple of times.
For the light fitting there were two options: an extensible fitting; or a rail system with hanging lights. Fortunately, there wasn’t that much choice that matched our criteria and it soon became clear that a rail system would be both too expensive and probably difficult to fit on our ceiling.
Now that it’s fitted I’m not sure it really needed to be extensible! But I guess we won’t find out until the autumn, when we’ll also find the best height, and angle: the lamp is flat but, depending on how you look at it, it doesn’t seem to be because other things aren’t.
