The Root Problem

The yew tree root was left over from before Easter but when Ivan came back from the sudden death of his father, he spent two days with a friend digging it out and dragging it to the front garden.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a new skip before he had to leave again and the driver refused to help. So we have to find a way to lift it into the skip. Now, although Astrid is pretty strong, I don’t think even she can manage this beast, which must way at least 300 kg if not more.

One of the things I remember from my youth is “helping” my dad change the engine on our 1967 yellow GPO Ford Transit. We went from a 1.5 litre to 1.7. I think the idea was to make our “hellidays”  go faster. It didn’t.

The important thing is that we used a crane to lift the engine in and out. And I reckon a similar crane should work on the root and I’ve found places that rent them. Just need some willing volunteers to help. I wonder if we can get the B team back together?
