The Kitchen

The kitchen at the moment.

At some poin th downstairs toilet was extended into the kitchen and converted into a bathroom leaving not much room for a kitchen.

Our idee is to have a U-shaped kitchen with the hob on the left, work surface in the middle and the sink on the right. This will leave only a metre in the middle, so it will be like a galley and require a lot of discipline. But if we can manage it, I think it should work well.

Something like this, which our all-singing, all-dancing oven on the other side of the window.

This is currently the other side of the kitchen. But, at a good 4 metres from the unit, not really suitable to be used with it. Our idea is to knock the wall through into the dining room and use that extensively. It’s pretty much what we do in the Waldlehne and it means that you can’t use the kitchen table for preparation or putting things on. We think this is probably a good thing, but time will tell. I’m a bit of  Tasmanian Devil in the kitchen and tend to leave everything in my wake. Fortunately,  Astrid is generally happy to tidy up, as long as the food is tasty!

We’ll just have to see how much equipment we can afford to have around in the kitchen, but some stuff will have to live in the cellar when it’s not in use. Already had to point out that there probably isn’t going to be room for Timmy the Thermomix to have permanent place. But we will be able to use the window sill, because the window won’t open all the way down. And, we hope there will be room for a bistro table and a couple of the Marjorcan bar stools for a quick coffee in the morning, as the window faces east.
