The Heartwood Tree

The root system of the yew tree is known for being complex and the deep red of the sapwood is so impressive. But hemmed in by the patio and the wall of the neighbour’s garage wall meant that the tree couldn’t grow properly.

Instead, one of the sunniest spots in the garden, was a dark and wet corner, loved by the local mosquitoes!

We’ll still have yews in the garden was part of the hedge at the end. A welcome change from some of the invasive imports like rhododendrons!
