The Greatest Gift That Is Hope

All day I’d been waiting for news about the heating but knowing there was nothing we could do about it. You just have to put it out of your mind - for once diving into the depths of OOXML, what Microsoft Office flies are written in, and dreary as dishwater, proved useful. As did a trip to Lintorf for eggs from the farm…

I’d discussed the plan for the day with Ivan in the morning, including preparing to raise the front door in case we can lay the flooring. After lunch I decided we should go ahead with it, as long as we had some way of extending the doorstep, otherwise we’ll just have a draft. So I sent Ivan a text to say we should do it and got my bike and rode over and saw what I’d secretly been hoping for: two lesser spotted plumbers! 😃 Jan and Christian were already there and nearly finished!

At a stroke they’d doubled the number of radiators in the house and you could feel the effect. Downstairs was up to 14°C but felt warmer than yesterday, because it wasn’t just the hot air. But, because they’d had to empty the boiler to fit the radiators, it was having heat and pump a lot and the pipes weren’t as hot as you’d expect. I even went into the cellar to check the boiler. I stood watching the temperature drop with no reaction from the boiler. But when it got to 70°C it kicked back into life. Nice to know we’re doing our bit for climate change! 😁
