Remember, remember the fifth of November…
We used Bonfire Night as an excuse to invite over some of our friends who helped us with house last year.
While we did have a little fire in a brazier, we didn’t have a guy to burn, fireworks, parkin, toffee apples or treacle toffee*, the weather held and there was Glühwein!
We made good use of the kitchen: I prepared chicken fricassee and my signature beetroot salad the day before, leaving it largely free for Astrid to cook pumpkin soup, prepare the Glühwein and a wonderful apple and pear crumble: two people can work in their together fine, but you do need to stick to your task and clear up quickly afterwards, even if clearing up is just rinsing stuff and leaving it in the sink…
And the table and lamp were extended to the full for the first time ever in the new house. We might still work on the height and position, but it works as it should.
And, we must have done something right, because there wasn’t much left over! Though this was also down to KISS (keep it simple, stupid). It’s so tempting when you’re having more people over to cook more, but resist it if you can!
But enough about that, it was a great evening for us to share with Ivan, Olha, Petra, Otti, Sabine, Marius, Uli and Bine!
* There’s always next year!
