Prepare for the worst, hope for the best

The ground floor is now completely covered in this stuff which is going to provide a flat surface for our new wooden floor which needs to be laid, sanded and lacquered before our kitchen can be fitted, which is due to happen on the 6th December.

So far so good, but we still need to work on the downstairs bathroom and need the floor try to do so and the cooperation of the workmen to do so.

Oh, and the kitchen still needs some work on the plastering and the wiring to be fully connected.

So, lots needs to go right meaning that lots could go wrong. So far everyone has been really cooperative, let’s hope this continues. I think some heating in could be decisive.

When, at the beginning of September, we found out the true scale of what needed to be done, we started thinking about what we would do if it couldn’t all be done. It’s too early to know but I think that, having at least discussed contingency plans, will make the next few weeks slightly less nerve-racking.

We are behind on the original timetable for the flooring, because we’ve done so much more on the house. And it’s all stuff that needed to be done sooner rather than later and the house looks all the better for it. Worst case: we won’t have a kitchen or a shower before we move, and will have to reschedule stuff for next year.

But by then we will have heating, electricity and somewhere to sleep. Things we couldn’t be sure of at the start of September. And we also know that we can count on great friends to help out. And that makes such a difference! 😃
