Steel is harder than aluminium It took me a while to set the drill up correctly but then rivets didn’t stand a chance and I was able to remove the first bit of the frame, which would then give more leverage over the rest. The boards at the top
Through the block, through the chipboard and deep into the banister. And I don’t have a screwdriver big enough! But I managed to find a bit that sort of fit, though as it’s already a bit chewed I’m not optimistic… But thank god for vise grips! And
Having a lump hammer can solve a lot of problems, quickly. But if you look closely, you’ll see I’ve probably removed more plaster than I should have. Anyway smashing the board though allowed me to see some additional screws, just not the ones behind the plaster into rawplugs
The chipboard is screwed to the block somehow, except the screws don’t seem to have any heads. Oh well, just have to hope everything will come away once the blocks have been unscrewed from the frame.
I started with the easy bits: find any screws and remove them and see what else can come away. Then the details of the frame became visible: lots of lovely rivets! And screws and bolts, where you’d never expect them!
