Let op! Drempel

Let op! Drempel

Here’s Ivan showing off his handiwork!

And now the linguistic lecture. The sidewalls in the attic are called “Drempels” in German. But I had to do double take when I heard the word for the first time because everyone who’s been to Holland knows what Drempels are: sleeping policemen, or Verkehrsberuhigungmaßnahmen as they’re known in German.

Anyway, initially, Astrid was against any attempt to reduce the floor surface in the attic. And, for once, I kept quiet about it. In the end wiser heads prevailed: it’s difficult to keep clean and provides very little useable storage space. Getting the Drempels in now means that the radiators can be mounted and also the parquet flooring can be fitted. At some point.

In other news: we now again have a working toilet downstairs, which means we don’t need to rent any portaloos.
