Halfway there
This morning the new dishwasher arrived. The old one was removed and I could look underneath where it had stood and give it a quick clean.
But I was then told that they couldn’t connect the new one because the cupboard below the sink is too close to the wall and the old “aqua stop”, something to prevent flooding, couldn’t be removed and the new one not fitted.
It is easy enough to do this: either cut a larger hole in the base of the cupboard, or move it forward. However, they’re not equipped for the former, and they’re not supposed to do the latter.
Oh, and there is no front cover for the dishwasher.
I’ve sort of got used to this: if you don’t expect everything to work first time, you won’t be s disappointed.
I called the kitchen studio and spoke with our friend Mr Gildemeier about getting someone to do the necessary work. It’s not much, and if it wasn’t so fiddly, I’d probably have a go myself. And we want to talk to him about the kitchen anyway. Most tradesmen will be on holiday until next week but I’m sure we’ll sort something out.
I can understand Astrid’s frustration at the decision not to have bought a dishwasher with the kitchen, but, at the time, I think we were right not to. But I hadn’t expected the old dishwasher to spend so much time in the cold. We’re now dealing with one of those situations where no one really wants to take responsibility.
In the meantime, we’ll just have to continue to wash by hand and we’ve definitely got used to this: the large sink more than makes up for the lack of space!
It’s annoying but we’ve got bigger challenges coming up.
