One of the first things we did in the house was start replacing the electrics. But it was mainly laying new cables with all the new sockets unused, waiting for for plastering to be finished.

For the last two months all the power in the house has had to come from the cellar. And this is still largely the case. But since last week we do at least have a new unit for the fuses and circuit breakers to replace the slightly worrying collection halfway down the stairs.

Now most of the sockets are wired up and the new unit is connected to the mains.

But, and there is always is a but, this morning the utility company rang to say that they would be replacing the mains connection. A good idea considering all the holes they’ve dug. But they could have decided to do this last week. As it is the electricians will have to reconnect the mains…
