Mirrors, mirrors on the wall

Towards the end of the year, we finally got round to choosing mirrors for the bathrooms.

They had been one of the many items we’d been able to postpone. Important but difficult to get right.

We’d had some discussions in the summer, with Astrid keen on frames and me worried about space.

While we were in Manchester at the end of September I was able to show her some of my mum’s, which have no frames but a nice facet cut around the edge. Amazing what a difference the shape makes.

Needless to say we couldn’t even think about transporting the mirrors but it gave us ideas that we both agreed on.

I then found a company in Germany that does made to measure mirrors at reasonable prices. We’d already measured but that was with frames.

Yeah, I know who’d employ me as a draughtsman? Worse, I forgot I’d made the sketch so when it came to mount the mirror, it was too high.

I watched Ivan carefully when he did this. And, with the help of my trusty assistant, was able to mount the downstairs mirror. It’s slightly skewed but that’s actually due to how the mounting points were glued on to the mirror.

I was then able to adjust the mirror in the upstairs bathroom on my own: it’s now at a better height and still straight. A couple of holes will need filling in time. But I guess that’s normal!

The important thing is, for those that need them, we now have mirrors! I only ever need one when I trim my beard… which reminds me, I probably need to do that again soon.

Sooner rather than later!
